Sitting up, breathing good 4-26 PM

Hey everyone,
After remaining stable on the cpap machine, around 6pm they decided to let him sit up in a chair. So he sat for about an hour, still wasnt able to talk much because of the constant flow of oxygen through the mask, but he was able to make some good expressions and laughed a little bit. Today was a great day, and we pray that he keeps improving. He is so happy to be off the ventilator, he will be even happier when he can actually speak again. He gets frustrated sometimes giving us signs and nodding all the time, and he cant tell any jokes that way either, so thats no fun. He still has a long way to go, his strength in his legs is not back yet, but he can lift his arm up pretty good, and has a good squeeze in his hand. I always tease him, "Dad you want to arm wrestle." God has just given us one miralce after another. Keep praying, and we love hearing from you all. Ill talk to you soon! Aloha,
Katelyn

  1. Hey, Bob!
Glad to hear you are progressing and improving. We sang a hymn today at church about breathing and I sang your name under my breath and pictured God giving you new air and new life.
But the coolest thing happened tonight_ When Dick got home from CdL, we decided to build a fire in the outdoor fireplace on the back patio. Then I said, "How about some marshmallows and I'll get the roller roasters!" We then got to talking about you and then I said hey why don't we try roasting those little individual angel food cakes I bought at Costco. So Harmony and her boyfriend being very open to a new recipe said hey sure. I tore one in two and it was about the size of two nicely toasted marshmallows and put it through the prongs on the RR's. I slowing turned it and kept it high on the fire. After a minute or so pulled it out and it was a nice golden crispy color then we put a roasted marshmallow in the center and popped em' in the mouth! Awesome and I told Dick when you get home and get your strength up we are having you guys up for this new tasty treat...anyway just wanted to tempt you with a good thought for the future_a fun night at Haveman's :) So we send love and prayers for breathing and healing.

  2. Thank Bob for all the hard work he is doing to keep the good news coming! We appreciate his efforts. We also appreciate the efforts of Jan, Katelyn, Breck, family and friends who have been there with him. And, let it not go without saying, we are so thankful for God's guiding hands. Our prayers continue to be with you all. -Laura and Josi

  3. What wonderful news ... praise God! I'd like to tell you about something I learned recently about breathing. There is such a thing as "the breath of God". Use your imagination... and imagine that God is breathing. Close your eyes and sit still. As you inhale, feel that your "breathing in" is part of a larger and greater "breathing in". As you breathe out, imagine that your "breathing out" is part of a larger and greater "breathing out".

So, as you breathe --- put your breath IN God's breath. Let your breathing be IN God's breathing. And so it is not so much YOU breathing any longer. Now you are no longer struggling with your breathing --- you are letting God breathe for you.

    In Christ's love,
    Donna
